Losing Spiritual Vitality

A Reflection On Mild Stenosis In The Light Of The Truth That We Are Not Alone!

Rev. Victorio G. San Juan, A. Joana B. San Juan-Garcia, MD, FPCP

In the Philippines and worldwide, cerebrovascular disease, also known as stroke, has always been among the leading causes of death and disability. As of 31 October 2022, it is the second most common cause of death in the Philippines following ischemic heart disease. Despite its high morbidity and mortality, there is poor public knowledge about stroke and its risk factors.

Addressing this knowledge gap is one of the key strategies to help reduce the disease burden. Although stroke has fatal and debilitating consequences, most of its causes are treatable and preventable. A delay in diagnosis and management of stroke has corresponding loss in brain function and worst, leads to death. Time is Brain. Timely emergency management of acute stroke is essential to achieve good outcomes.

This booklet provides comprehensive information about strokes, including the factors that put individuals at risk, the symptoms indicative of a stroke, and effective prevention strategies. Furthermore, it features Pastor Vic's inspiring testimony detailing how God's providence safeguarded him during his recent stroke experience and how he successfully regained his spiritual vitality after facing this challenging ordeal.
